NANS Urges Federal Govt To Reopen Federal College of Veterinary By Yakubu Busari, Jos

The authorities of Federal College of Veterinary and Medical laboratory technology (FCVMLT)Vom, have been urged to reopen the college for academic activities, just as the Federal Government is called upon to appoint a substantive provost.

This was contained in press release, by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), zone ‘C’ issued by its director of socials Comrade Abdulakreem Rafat, Wednesday  in Jos.

According to NANS, it is timely for the college authority to open the school and allow for full academic activities to thrive, stressing that while other institutions of learning have been on the FCVMLT, students are left out of school.

It said: “NANS equally appealed for the total reversal of the recent hike in school fees, order for the reopening of the school immediately. Government should further strengthen the institution, its facilities, the teaching and non-teaching personnel.”

The student body further said: “We plead with the Federal Government to do the needful, and release the result of the last interview conducted for the appointment of a substantive provost, which is seen long overdue.”

NANS also said, very unfortunate is the continuous circle of acting provost ship of the college, which is allegedly being responsible for “decadence in the college over administrative incompetence.”

The college authority have on the 18/12/2014, shut down the institution indefinitely, following own students protest against school fees increments among others.

The college in a circular signed by Dr. Chukwu O. Chukwu, for the acting provost, ordering the closure of the institution, said it was necessitated to prevent further, break down of law and order.

The college further issued another circular dated 12/10/2015, signed by its acting registrar Mr. Baba Aliyu Umar, instructing the students to vacate their hostels.

Universalreporters247.com gathered that the Student had protested and blocked the main entrance of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), and prevented vehicular movement and other activities from taking place in the two institutions.

NANS said the Students, protested against hike in school fees and the manner at which the college is managing.

It said: “Students protested against the disastrous nature in the handling of college affairs by the acting provost of the college Dr. G.O.N Echenowu, of particular note, the hike in school fees, lack of students welfare, allegation of corruption, admission racketing, and lack of academic infrastructure..”

In the release NANS said they are of the view that the continuous acting of the Provost is an embarrassment situation to the federal Government and the academic community of the country.
