Mrs. Lami Selle Dakwak Reels Out Her Experienced In ITF, Applauds The Leadership Of Joseph Ari

A Retired Director with the Industrial Training Fund, (ITF) Mrs. Lami Selle Dakwak has reeked out that her early life career as a carpenter molded the leadership quality of a dedicated mother, focus, and transparency.

Mrs. Lami Selle Dakwak speaks on her family upbringing where she imbibed the spirit of hard work and dedication to learn technical and wooden training from her father’s.

She applauded the current Director General Sir Joseph Ntung Ari for the visionary leadership of constant renewal of policies and programs that would impact to better the well-being of Nigerian graduates and undergraduates towards reducing and fighting the scourge of unemployment in the area of skill acquisitions.

My name is Lami Selle Dakwak the immediate retired director technical vocational skills department of the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, I joined them in 1991 as a training development officer two but I was actually employed by the Plateau state government as a technical teacher posted to Government Science school Kuru where I worked as a technical teacher in science class.

However, as a technical teacher in 1991 when I transferred my service to ITF, like any other human being my first day at the industrial training fund was clouded with mixed feelings because I was a class teacher now coming into an organization that I didn’t know much of what they were doing.

According to her, the classroom experience and the civil service were worlds apart but the joy of it was that the fund welcomed me. In ITF they have a policy of attaching new staff to old staff and one Mr. Wujumi was my first mentor but whole my life at ITF has been full of good things because the system has a career part that you will follow to develop.

The structure of management was so good and went through preparation stages that actually prepared you for any position or job that you’re looking for. It is enjoyable because you work with an organization that has caring colleagues who watch out for you and put you through the job, it is good and interesting, he explained.

Mrs. Lami Dakwak stated,” I actually grew up in a family that is not discriminatory of whatever you do, my fathers were a technical person my mum even though didn’t enjoy the 4-corner room or educated but was industrious woman, she exposed us to do what we like. I used to follow my dad to his workshop carpenter place.

So, after furniture training during holidays, I joined my dad and my completed primary school education I just found myself in a technical high school doing woodwork and they encouraged me up to a degree level and what really helped me is my passion to learn and acquire knowledge in wooden training.

She debunked that wooden training is not men dominant field or career, and it didn’t affect my work The problem is if you don’t like what you’re doing then you can’t make an impact Mine is self-motivation is what drives my passion and I got encouragement which is truth that is not men dominated field.

Parents don’t see the technical training of females as anything, A lot of us here in Africa have developed laziness, however, we changing gradually in the area of technical education.

Dakwak employed women that any woman that wants to do something technical must have the desire, not that is not challenging but it has to do with something that is tasking and you have to imbibe the spirit of hard work and dedication, “she stressed.

She said, it is challenging in ITF because we were actually given a task, and recorded my first task to perform which I had never done before it was to come out with a training program that would be used in furniture training of ITF, I do that upon myself and I was able to achieve it that was my first challenge.

Then, we went into a survey that exposed me to direction contacts with people outside both workers in the industries and staff working in public service and international, locals in that capacity so I worked through the rank and file were work here at headquarters then transferred to Ilorin state came back to the headquarters later to Centre of excellence in Bukuru as staff trainees.

The second challenge we had was in setting up another technical wing we did succeed as I worked with my colleagues and we moved from centre excellent to the headquarters after two years I was made the manager and then transferred back to ITF modeled centre in Abuja where I headed the center. I was able to conquer and in 2018 I was elevated to the position of director returned to the headquarters of the department where I served and finally retired today.

While this medium visited the compound of the retired director technical vocational skills department, she was sleeping but walked up to welcome the crew. The outspoken director speaks on leadership training in the church and youths in leadership in Africa.

Mrs. Lami Dakwak expressed her little bad experience in ITF with some senior members that she sometimes worked with, people that don’t understand her I had the privilege of working with a few colleagues who never understood me so we had some small challenges but that didn’t affect the job and gave the feeling that either to forget the job.

As I told you to take a look at ITF is a family, so the journey in ITF has been joyous, it has given me the opportunity to work with different organizations international were we work with Germany, the UK, the International Federation of Development, FID, ITE, Singapore, trained in Brazil on management skills centre in the US including numerous international bodies.

While here in Nigeria Lagos Chamber of Commerce, Niger state, Kaduna Ministry for Technology so has given me a lot of opportunities to interact and has actually helped me even in my personal life because working with people that are focused can give you the direction to focus on what and delivered and achieved tremendous success.

She disclosed that recently she worked with many centers and ministries across the country on humanitarian aspects which me understand the youth and our need to also help me work closely with my Church youths.

I had a close working relationship with a girl Bridget as a patron and my exposure gave me the opportunity to work with them and understand their needs and also worked with a group of women called Women of Vision.

Dakwak says,” I also facilitate the program all through the experience that helped me at the fund leadership institute where train leaders deliver God’s mandate in the Church as the current chairperson for Plateau state. ITF has given professional training on safety and health that also gave me the opportunity to work with safety institutes in Nigeria and internationally these are the exposure where ITF was able to equip me now that I have moved out, I should be able to make use of the experience encouraging using your passion to work.

“I have a passion for farming so when the federal government issued an order to encourage civil servants to venture into farming, I also took advantage of it to start farming but is where is working with the youths in farming and promised to focus attention to see how to contribute to the development of youth and food security in the country those are what I desire to be doing as I have retired, she added.

For now, I will be enjoying my retirement, My contributions are being able to work in line with the mandate particularly the focus of the organization of ITF is mandated to equip the youths on manpower development and I was able to achieve the equip the modern center and I was able to work with harmoniously with my staff to succeed also facilitate the training of iQS to achieve national skills qualification center also deployed staff and improve their businesses.

Particularly in crop production and training youth, it is a program they’re given groups our instruction to be trained and developed which will contain all these results credit goes to leadership Joseph Ari who is focused and passionate to provide.

Dakwak told this medium that she looked at ITF Director General Joseph Ari as her mentor to keep the reviewed curriculum to suit the present economic challenges including SIWEST equipping the youths.
