In a deeply distressing development, two young married women, Mrs. Uzochi Glory Nnorom, wife of Mr. Chimamkpa Nnorom, and Mrs. Richeal Okereke, wife of Mr. Mmadueke Okereke, both from Umuugwuta Village in Ndegwu Community, Owerri West LGA of Imo State, Nigeria, have cried out to the public and appealed to the Shared Prosperity Administration, as well as security and law enforcement agencies, to intervene in securing the release of their husbands who remain in military custody at the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze.

The women explained that their husbands were arrested following a minor quarrel which unfortunately escalated into a physical fight. During the scuffle, one Mr. Okezuo Ogbos sustained a head injury, while Mr. Chimamkpa Nnorom sustained an injury on his back.

The incident reportedly occurred late in the night of Sunday, August 31, 2025.

The matter was initially reported to the Ndegwu Eagle Eyes Vigilante Security Group, who, instead of resolving it amicably, allegedly facilitated the arrest by involving soldiers.

According to the wives, the arrest was carried out on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, upon the prompting of Mr. Okezuo’s brother, Corporal Chimdalu Ogbos, a serving soldier who allegedly influenced military operatives to detain his two kinsmen.

In their lamentations, Mrs. Nnorom and Mrs. Okereke decried the continued detention of their husbands, insisting that the matter was purely a civil dispute that ought to have been peacefully resolved within the community.

They alleged that the arrest and detention were politically motivated and masterminded by their kinsman, Corporal Ogbos, who, according to them, is exploiting military authority to settle personal and communal scores.

The women further revealed that soldiers had stormed and searched their homes in Ndegwu Community in an attempt to recover firearms, but nothing incriminating was discovered.

Despite this, their husbands have remained in custody. As of October 2, 2025, both young men have spent more than 31 days in military confinement at the Quarter Guard Cell of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze.

They passionately appealed to the military authorities in Imo State, the state government, and relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure justice and secure the immediate release of their husbands.

They also called for the transfer of the case to the Nigerian Police Force, Imo State Command, stressing their readiness to pursue the matter in a court of competent jurisdiction if necessary.

The wives described the continued detention as a clear case of conspiracy, rooted in lingering village politics and deep-seated animosity within the Ogbos family.

They alleged that the rivalry was connected to leadership crises and tussles over the positions of Woman Leader and President General in the Ndegwu Community Government.

While speaking to newsmen, the two women appealed directly to the Executive Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, who is the Chief Security Officer of the state, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, the State Director of DSS, the IMHA member representing Owerri West State Constituency, Hon.Kanayo Onyemaechi, the Executive Council Chairman of Owerri West, Chief Victor Osigwe, the Senator representing Owerri Zone, Sen.Ezenwa Onyewuchi, and other relevant security authorities, to intervene for the freedom of their husbands.

They described their spouses as innocent men who have been falsely branded as terrorists, even after the military concluded several rounds of preliminary investigations in their homes without finding any evidence.

“We are crying out to the super authorities for assistance, and we are begging the government of the day in Imo State to release our two husbands,” the women lamented in tears.
