Ministry Of Environment Redesigned Web-Based Platform “ECO HUB” For Effective Environmental Governance

The Federal Ministry of Environment is set to launch the “Green Bonds and Debt Swap for Nature” Programme aimed at shoring up resources needed to tackle the numerous environmental challenges in the country.

The Minister of Environment, Hajiya Amina Mohammed disclosed this in Lafia on Thursday at the 10th National Council on Environment said programmes would be launched in the first quarter of 2017 as part of the ministry’s efforts to garner resources from other sources to adequately address environmental challenges.

The minister noted that domestic resources needed for the implementation of policies that would improve the environment are hard to come by,the minister explained that the innovation would enable private sector partnership with additional from the capital market towards achieving sustainable environmental development.

Hajiya Amina Mohammed added that the Green Bonds and Debt swap for nature would also make for efficient joint environmental projects at the Federal and state levels.adding that the ministry redesigned its website and established a dedicated web-based platform known as Eco Hub to ensure effective environmental governance.

According to her, the Eco Hub is geared towards improving communication between the federal and state government with regards to environmental policies and programmes,she reiterated that the online platform provides up-to-date information of all the activities of the Federal government as it relates to the Ministry of Environment towards improving ecological governance and participation throughout the country.

She maintained that the ministry would continue to seek stronger collaboration with other stakeholders and tiers of government in order to maximize environmental focus, strong participation and consultation for improved service delivery and policy coherence.
