Minister Challenges Women To Rise On Gender Discrimination By Yakubu Busari,Jos

The Minister for Women Affairs and Social Development ,Hon.Zainab Maina has challenged women  on human rights abuses  and to work toward  eliminating all forms of discrimination against women .
Maina stated this on Thursday on a bill sponsored by Hon. Joyce Ramnap on the  gender and equality bill  and the  plight of internally displaced women and children in the middle belt and northeast which have attracted  international scene.
She appealed to members of the seventh Assembly in  Plateau state to as a matter of urgency past the gender bill into law before the expiration of their office .
The minister also  lamented  over the poor condition of internally displaced women and children who has been  abused in the society
Represented by Hauwa Mustapha yesterday during an  awareness workshop organized by  UN Women ,The European Union, the German corporation in collaboration with ministry of women affairs and social development held at the Lamonde Hotel .
She stressed the need to brainstorm on the review gender and equal opportunities bill in Plateau State and also to  mitigate on the challenges of internally displaced  states.
He called for the implementation of the full laws against abuse of women.
The commissioner of women affairs and social development ,Hon.Sarah Yusuf said the objective is to  improve on public-private dialogue and  job creation mechanisms on a local level .
She added that freedom provides free and quality health care services for all pregnant women between time of pregnancy and 2 years delivery and for all children under the age of 12 years from being discriminated.
Yusuf noted that section 24 prohibits violence against women in private ,family or public sphere, including unwanted or forced sex or traditional ,religious or cultural practices harmful to the well-being and integrity of the womanhood.
According to her, it is a bill for a law to provide for the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and to establish a gender and equal opportunities .
Representative Miss Modupe Omopintemi said,”promoting women’s  engagement in peace and security in northern Nigeria ,with the sum of 10 million euros for 3 years to implement UN women in partnership with UNICEF and the federal ministry of women’s  affairs.


She said the programme will provide state, civil society and other stakeholders with the training and resources necessary to ensure gender capacitated peace architecture,focused on the management and resolution of local conflict.
