The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chairman for Mbaitoli L.G.A. of Imo State Mr. Geoffrey Dikeocha, has described the immediate past Minister of Interior Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho as the best APGA governorship aspirant in Imo State.
Mr. Dikeocha said this when the leaders of APGA in Mbaitol paid a solidarity visit to the former minister at his residence in Owerri recently.
While speaking on behalf of the party executives and leaders from the area during the visit, the party chieftain recounted how APGA and Mbaitoli people were highly instrumental to electing Governor Rochas Okorocha into power during the 2011 supplementary governorship election in Imo State.
However, he regretted that the governor after using the platform of the party to achieve his political ambition dumped the party and abandoned the people of the area thereafter.
Nevertheless, he assured the former minister that the party delegates from the area would make sure he emerges the party’s candidate for the 2015. He also promised that the people of the area would vote massively for him during the general election.
While thanking the visitors, Capt. Ihenacho stated that his reason for presenting himself for governorship election in 2015 among other things was to create jobs for the teeming unemployed citizens of the state and also to prevent charlatans from continuing misappropriating the commonwealth of the masses.
‘… My opportunity of becoming a minister in Nigeria opened my eyes to the high level of unemployment in Imo State. As a minister, I employed a lot of Imo youths into the parastatals under my ministry then. However, the irony was that the more I employed people, the more many jobless ones who were even more qualified appeared for employment.
‘As a successful businessman, I have created jobs in my companies for many of our people. I have the magic wand to create jobs. It is all about vision. Therefore, I will be doing a disservice to my people if after discovering that God has given me the vision to solve the major problem they are facing and I continue to remain in my comfort zone without doing anything. Posterity will not forgive me…’, he said.
He however berated many past leaders in the state for abandoning Mbakwe’s policy on industrialization.
According to him, ‘Ex-Governor Mbakwe created up to 34 industries in Imo State within four years. If other subsequent administrations in the state had continued at that rate, Imo State would have been having more than 200 industries today…’.
On the money from the sale of crude oil in the country that is allocated to the states, the former minister said that it was the bane of most state governors.
He had this to say, ‘What is killing most of our leaders is lack of vision….The money they go to Abuja every month as statutory allocation has made them to be very lazy. Therefore, many of them do not think out ways to solve the problems bedevilling the people unlike their counterparts in countries in South East Asia…’.
However, he assured that electing visionary and honest leaders would be the only solution to the suffering of the masses.

The occasion was attended by many APGA leaders including the former General Manager of Radio Nigeria Heartland F. M. Owerri Mr. Chika Emerenwa, member representing Mbaitoli in the Imo State House of Assembly Hon Victor Ndunagu, that of Owerri North L.G.A Engr. Dan Ikpeazu and Dr. Victor Mere of Owerri Municipal.
