Staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has petitioned its acting chairman Ibrahim Magu over alleged financial misappropriation, illegal virement and extra budgetary spending without the approval of the National Assembly.

Abba Mai-Deribe, who signed the petition dated 6th November, 2016 on behalf of concerned EFCC staff accused the Ag. chairman of misappropriating the commission’s money and diverting same contrary to the Appropriation Act,”

It also accused the anti-graft boss of deliberately refusing to promote core staff of the commission, but instead reducing them to nothing.

The petition states that “Mr Bashir Bello, a fellow chartered accountant in the accounting department, who has been due for promotion to Directorate Level is being victimised and reduced to nothing. Because the Ag. Chairman does not want any core staff to develop.”

They also refer to the unfair disengagement of core and professional staff who have served the Commission diligently, but have now been replaced with “incompetent ones.

“See the case of former head of Human Resource Unit, former head of General Services, former head of SCUML, former Commandant of Academy and former head of SARU.

“These are pioneer staff of the Commission, who have been trained with so much resource. These people can be called as witnesses to testify this case,” the eight page petition states.
