Local Government Accountant Slumps, Died Over Alleged Corruption Charges In Bauchi

An accountant with Tafawa-Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi state name withheld has slumped and died of corruption charges involving millions of naira.

This is barely coming at a time when president Buhari has vowed to deal with corrupt officials in all the sectors of the economy

The victims it was gathered might have died of a heart attack following a court suit filed against him to appear before a court in Bauchi metropolis.

The deceased it was learnt was accused of initiating 60 ghost workers into the payroll of the  Council Health Department where he served as an accountant and personally collected the salaries of the ghost workers for eight years until the bubble busted during the recent staff  verification exercise introduced by Bauchi state governor Barrister Nohammed Abubakar.

A source confided that the victim was also accused of squandering the entitlements meant for staff retirees in Tafawa-Balewa LGA for eight years.

This development which jolted the victims, as they sue the deceased before the court when they learnt about the shoddy deal, and on hearing the court action he slumped and died of alleged heart attack.

However, family sources told newsmen that the late accountant died of chicken pox and could not be verified that he died of heart attack.

The council headquarters was relocated to Bununu from Tafawa-balewa town since its creation in the 1970’s by the Yuguda administration claiming it was done to restore peace following Fulani attacks on innocent residents of the area.
