The Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Abdulkarim Kana while clearing the air on the revelation that his nascent administration inherited over five garnishing order, he further listed some of the cases which he maintained cost the State Government the tune of over N10bn, some of the court cases emanated from breach of contractual agreements not completed while others are purely litigations between the State and pensioners in the State.

 

  1. Zimbabwe white Farmers deal during the era of the first executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Adamu

The Anthony General said the current administration in the State even with the economic crunch has inherited litigations ranging from garnishing orders which he said include the Zimbabwe white farmers deal signed by the first executive Governor of the State, Abdullahi Adamu, He maintained that the present Governor needed N10bn to settle the matters which are lingering for years, adding that the then sitting Governor used the State Government as collateral.

 

  1. Land compensation at Taal Model School, Doma, The Commissioner of Justice explained that a huge amount of money was set aside to settle the impasse between the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board and the owner of the plot of land trespassed in Doma. The man dragged the State Government to court, this was carried over from the immediate past Governor,Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, it was gathered that the Judge who presided over the matter, Justice Simon Aboki ordered for the arrest of the Chairman of the Local Government.

 

3.Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall

He said contractors that built the hall were denied access to complete their project and they approach the court, won their case, and were given the sum of N1. 5bn to complete the remaining projects.

 

  1. Litigation between Alhaji Tanko Baba, a business tycoon in Lafia, The State capital was amongst the contractors that institute legal action against the State Government.

 

5.NSG Versus The Contractor of NSHA

 

The State Commissioner of Justice,Bar. Abdulkarim Kana in an interview explained that the contractor handling the building of the new complex of the State House of Assembly dragged the State Government to court for delaying his payment.

 

6.Breeze F. M

The Chief Executive Officer of the privately-owned radio station Breeze F. M 99.9,Nawani Aboki instituted a lawsuit demanding the sum of N1.5bn as compensation for the demolition of the radio station at NACWYCA along Shendam road.

The court slashed the amount from N1. 5bn to N648m.

 

  1. Legal Action Instituted  by the State Government over the statues of professional Doctors

 

The State Government on her part threatened by the incessant strike embarked upon Nigeria Medical Association which comprises of six Associations under the umbrella of Joint Action Committee namely, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Nigeria Association Nurses and other associations said the State Government filed in a court case over the recent strike embarked by an unregistered Union, Association of Professional Doctors.

 

The Commissioner Justice hinted that the State Government is putting place measures that would make strike action old fashion not only by Medical doctors but by broad-spectrum civil servants in the State.
