The Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians (CNNC), with millions of members in the Nineteen Northern States and Abuja, has cautioned Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services, DSS, against the sustained persecution of the former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (Dr. Obadiah Mailafiya), who is also an important member of the Congress, stressing that such action is generating a lot of tension amidst the disturbing insecurity in Nigeria.
The Congress challenged the security agents to go after the kidnappers, bandits, killer herdsmen and terrorists who have taken over virtually every point in Nigeria, especially the North, they should also identify, arrest and persecute their sponsors and suppliers of deadly weapons and stop intimidating the gentleman who’s heart goes for the citizens of Nigeria irrespective of tribe or religion.
He has served Nigeria credibly and effectively, why treating him like a criminal?
The persecution was allegedly connected to Dr. Mailafiya’s recent message aired on radio. Unfortunately, many clerics and the senior citizens made more grievous and sincere statements than that of Dr. Mailafiya, yet none was invited for questioning. Why singling out Dr. Mailafiya who is a direct victims of terrorist attacks in Southern Kaduna.
In a statement signed by its National Secretary Pastor Yusufu and the National Youth President, Daniel Kadzai, the Congress said arresting of Dr. Mailafiya is a potential danger of pitching the Christian community against the Federal Government.
The group noted that Dr. Mailafiya’s comments on the killings in Nigeria is a reflection of the general suspicion of every fair-minded Nigerian over the incessant bloodshed in the country and the failure of the Nigeria Military to END the mindless insecurity, despite huge budgetry allocation from tax payers money.
