Lassa fever: Kwande evacuates refuse, fumigate communities

Honourable Suleiman Yahaya Kwande has charged his Constituents of Jos North/Bassa Federal constituency to ensure regular observance of a clean environment for good condition of healthy living.

The federal lawmaker gave the charge in Jos while flagging up the evacuation and fumigation of some communities within Jos North against the scourge of Lassa fever.

He said having being disturbed by the news of a case of the disease there is the need to take some immediate preventive measures one of which is to sensitized the people, evacuates dirt and also fumigate communities as possible.

According to the lawmaker who was represented by the secretary of his constituency office, Mr. Adam AB.Galla, Kwande stressed that the, “health condition of my people is of paramount importance which must be careful tackled with all seriousness.”

Our correspondent gathered that the state commissioner of health Dr. Kunden Kamshak Deyin, has said that the state has in the past recorded eight cases of Lassa fever, with three out of the eight persons being killed by the disease while five others were treated and discharge out of the hospitals.

The lawmaker said it has becoming worrisome that one of the cases affected Ali Kazaure ward in Jos North LGA, and it rose great concerned to the effect that something must be done.

“The essence of the exercise is as the representative of the People we are playing our part in the fight against Lassa fever and we will also call on the department of health in the local authority to ensure adequate awareness is impacted on the people and to also ensure retune observance of how clean their environments are, not only on the dangers of Lassa fever but even of all other related diseases,” he said.

The exercise which is scheduled to last for ten days featured professional refuse evacuators using heavy duty trucks and caterpillars evacuating the heap of refuse.
