Governor Simon Bako Lalong has appealed to federal government to complete the abandon Olympic stadium left by past governments at Zaria road so as to attract local and international sports men and women as well as boosting revenue base, and addressing youth restiveness.
The Plateau state governor flagged off the presentation of sports equipment to 2,000 public primary schools across the 17 local government Areas of the state with the sole purpose of promoting grassroots.
Governor Simon Lalong unveiled the commissioning and presentation of sports equipment to public primary schools, by National lottery Trust fund at Township stadium Rwang Pam.
Lalong was represented by the Deputy Gov. Professor Sunni Tyoden, he said developing sports at grassroots through inter-sporting activities in the state remain cardinal point of this administration.
According to him, to identify with sports talent of, we can catch them young for local and international competition for events building grassroots development.
He commended SUBERB Chairman Professor Mathew Sule for putting these wonderful ideas of promoting and encouraging youth participation in sports.
Lalong lamented that the Zaria stadium which was a contract awarded in 1993 has been abandon as home for reptiles which the government solicited the cooperation of minister of sports and youth development, Hon, Barr. Solomon Dalung to facilitate the completion.
He urged federal government to improve more on grassroots sports intervention through an organize curriculum require by teachers to impact positively in the lives of public /private schools in the state.
Lalong disclosed that program provide window opportunity for the pupils to acquire knowledge and conducive atmosphere that can improve the environment.
The following sports include; Athletic, Taekwando Badminton, Handball, Athletic, Table Tennis, Football, Volleyball ,Basketball which 54 public and private schools benefited from the gesture.
Lalong congratulated the state chapter for the careful of selection of schools by asking them to make good use of the facility toward promoting humanity.
