Lagos Fire Service Stops Inferno At Somolu Gas Plant

The Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service has saved a multi-million Naira gas plant from being consumed by fire in Somolu axis of the State.

Speaking to journalists about the incident, the Acting Controller, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, disclosed that the Agency received distress call at 0536 hours from 1, Ikija Street, Bajulaiye, Somolu, Lagos, that a building was on fire.

“Firefighting operations started immediately as two fire stations were mobilised to curtail the spread of the inferno from causing more damage, which led to the prevention of the plant and other residential buildings from being razed by the fire”, she said.

Mrs. Adeseye further stated that on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a bungalow built on a land of about 640sq/m consisting of four shops and six rooms, trading in a variety of stocks and also had residences were ablaze.

The Fire boss declared that preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical upsurge, just as efforts were being intensified to prevent it from spreading to adjoining buildings, including a mosque.

The State Fire Controller reiterated that electricity upsurge is caused by carelessness, hence advised Nigerians to always turn off their appliances when not in use.

Meanwhile, the situation was put under control with complementary support from the Federal Fire Service.
