Lagos Assembly Elects Mojisola Miranda As First Female Speaker

The Lagos State House of Assembly has elected Hon. Mojisola Meranda, deputy speaker and member representing Apapa Constituency 1, as Speaker to replace Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed from the plum position on Monday, January 13, 2025.

Meranda has already been sworn in as the new speaker of the House, thus becoming the first female speaker of the house in history.

Her emergence became possible after Mudashiru Obasa was removed by 32 members of the House.

Also, the deputy chief whip, Hon. Fatai Mojeed, has been elected as the deputy speaker to succeed Meranda.

Obasa was removed consequent upon his impeachment for allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement levelled against him.
