Killings In Irigwe: Operation Safe Haven Arrests 8 Irigwe Youths Over Attempts To Carry Out Retaliatory Attack

The joint security Taskforce in Plateau State, popularly known as Operation Safe Haven, yesterday arrested eight Irigwe youths with locally made guns which they alleged that the youths were planning a reprisal attack on some Fulani settlements.

According to the Taskforce Media and Information Office, Captain Adam Umar while speaking with newsmen on the telephone, he said crisis erupted on Tuesday following the killing of two cows by unknown persons; “While we were investigating the incident, an Irigwe boy was found dead the next day.”

According to him, the killing thereby elicited the Irigwe women and youths to show an action that they were attempting to carry out a revenge attack on some Fulani settlements; “when the task force was alerted, security men were deployed to the area to calm nerves, but some of the youths were angry that we stopped them, so they sneaked back to destroy our sector 6 checkpoints.”

According to the spokesperson of the Operation Safe Haven he hinted that the Irigwe youths were not happy as they said that the Fulani Herders has made it a habit of allowing their cows to graze on their farmlands even as he said that the Commander of the Operation Safe Haven Major General Anthony Atolagbe has visited the area to calm down the people.

He said; “Our men are currently dominating the area and cordon and search is going on.”
