Killings, Insecurity Ravage Obile Community in Ohaji/Egbema, As Traditional Ruler, Eze Abyssinia Ogbuji, Cries Out, Urges Gov. Uzodimma, Police Commissioner, DSS To Arrest Ex. PG, Mr. Kingsley Omuruka, His Cult Group

The Traditional Ruler of Obile Ancient Kingdom in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, His Royal Highness, Eze Abyssinia Columbus Ogbuji (Ojimaduzoku XXI), has raised an alarm over the worsening security situation in his community.

He has passionately appealed to the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant security agencies to urgently intervene by arresting and prosecuting the immediate past President General of Obile Community, Mr. Kingsley Chigozie Omuruka, and his alleged gang members who, according to him, have been terrorizing the community.

During a press briefing in Owerri on Friday, October 10, 2025, Eze Ogbuji, the 21st monarch on the royal throne of Obile, narrated that the leadership crisis in the community began shortly after his recognition and coronation as Traditional Ruler in 2004, under the administration of former Governor Chief Achike Udenwa.

He recalled that his ascension was widely celebrated by the people of Obile except for a few disgruntled individuals, whom he described as enemies of peace and detractors of the community’s progress.

According to the monarch, “The crisis in Obile was orchestrated by a group of opposition figures who vowed never to allow me to reign as their king;

“They include Mr. Henry Adimaelechi, Mr. Kingsley Chigozie Omuruka (popularly known as Blocker), Mr. Festus Uche Ogbonna, and Mr. Livinus Ezenwoke, among others.

These individuals have persistently undermined my authority and the peace of Obile Kingdom.”

He recounted that the opposition group, in their bid to dethrone him, had once invaded his palace at night, forcing him to flee for his life.

“They burnt down my Toyota 4-Runner Jeep, destroyed my royal signpost, and continued to harass and intimidate innocent residents.

This same group, led by Mr. Kingsley Omuruka, operates a dreaded cult known as De Gbam, which has consistently caused chaos and bloodshed in Obile,” the traditional ruler lamented.

Eze Ogbuji further alleged that during Mr. Omuruka’s tenure as President General of Obile from 2019 to 2025, insecurity and underdevelopment reached alarming levels.

“Omuruka introduced an illegal vigilante group made up of cultists who, instead of protecting the people, were killing and terrorizing them.

Their atrocities led to the gruesome murder of one Mr. Echidime Ekwueme, whose remains are still in the morgue.

The matter is currently before the High Court in Imo State,” he stated.

The monarch accused Omuruka of high-handedness and impunity, noting that his tenure, which constitutionally should have lasted four years, was illegally extended to six years.

“He imposed unauthorized levies, impersonated my kingship, and even declared himself both the Traditional Ruler and Acting President General of Obile.

His actions were criminal, reckless, and undermined the peace of the community,” the royal father said.

Eze Ogbuji revealed that Omuruka and his allies once petitioned the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, falsely alleging that he forged his letter of recognition.

“Following a thorough investigation, the Council vindicated me and reaffirmed my legitimacy as the duly recognized and government-approved monarch of Obile,” he said.

The monarch added that the people of Obile, in a bid to restore peace, reverted to the constitutional rotational zoning formula for the office of the President General.

Based on that principle, Comrade Pashcal Ndubuisi Obido, from Umuocha Kindred in Umuodu Village, was duly elected as the current President General of the community.

However, according to Eze Ogbuji, Omuruka, in defiance, regrouped his cult members and launched renewed attacks, resulting in the killing of Mr. Chinedu Chukwu and the disappearance of another youth, Mr. Onwa Jude Ogbu’s son, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

The traditional ruler, now living in exile for safety reasons, called for urgent government intervention.

“I am appealing to Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema LGA, Prince Marcel Amadioha, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all security agencies to rescue my community from total destruction.

The killings and unrest orchestrated by Mr. Omuruka and his group must be stopped,” he implored.

Eze Ogbuji insisted that the root cause of the renewed crisis is Mr. Omuruka’s loss of influence and control over the Town Union Government.

He also debunked allegations that the Executive Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema LGA or his vice, Mrs. Elizabeth Opara, were behind the crisis, describing such claims as false and misleading.

He maintained that those fomenting trouble in Obile are acting in defiance of the Shared Prosperity Administration of Governor Uzodimma.

“These killers, led by Omuruka, have made open threats in viral voice notes, declaring their intent to continue unleashing mayhem in my community.

I am therefore calling on the Inspector General of Police, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, the Director of DSS, and other security agencies to urgently arrest, investigate, and prosecute all those involved,” the monarch appealed.

Concluding his remarks, Eze Ogbuji declared, “Enough is enough. Let there be peace in Obile.

The government must rise to the occasion and ensure justice is served. I stand for peace, while they stand for war. The time to bring them to book is now.”

I rest my case, I am, HRH Eze Abyssinia Columbus Ogbuji, Traditional Ruler, Obile Ancient Kingdom, Ohaji/Egbema LGA, Imo State.

Meanwhile, in keeping with the ethics of fair and balanced journalism, concerted efforts were made by our correspondent to obtain the reactions of the accused individuals regarding the allegations leveled against them by the Traditional Ruler.

However, all attempts to reach them through their respective telephone numbers proved unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
