Kebbi State Government has condemned the recent attacks on several communities in the state, describing the incident as tragic and vowing to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property.
The attacks occurred on Wednesday in villages within Arewa Local Government Area, particularly Bui and neighbouring settlements.
The unprovoked assault forced residents to flee as suspected Lakurawa terrorists invaded homes and opened fire on civilians.
Security sources said 16 people were killed in Mamunu, five in Awashaka, three in Masama, and two each in five other villages.
Reacting on behalf of the government, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, said the state was deeply concerned about the killings, which he described as attacks on innocent residents observing the Ramadan fast.
Zuru stated that the government under Nasir Idris was committed to deploying all available resources to enhance security across the affected areas.
He added that the state was working in collaboration with the Nigerian military and other security agencies to track down those responsible.
According to him, authorities believe some of the attackers may have crossed into the state from neighbouring areas, adding that security operations are ongoing to prevent further incidents.
He said the government was mourning the victims and sharing in the grief of their families, noting that survivors would receive immediate assistance.
The state government assured residents that it would continue to intensify efforts to restore calm and prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
