The Staff of Jos University Teaching hospital (JUTH) who has suspended their indefinite strike  after demanding  their five  months’ salary has yet again picketed their Hospital again.

The Union leaders decried that about forty selected staff have been paid and over hundreds of them are still pending so they are appealing to federal government of Nigeria to come their rescue.

The Joint health sector union of the hospital which comprise of about five different unions have lamented that their plight is fast getting worse.

However, effort to speak with the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital for further explanation couldn’t yield any positive, as, the workers have no option than to picket the administrative block of the hospital where the Chief medical Director’s office is situated and director of administration, also picketed is the account department of the hospital.

Speaking to Journalists at the Hospital Premises Vice chairman of JOHESU JUTH branch, Comrade Timven Vongdip said after the intervention of the Minister Of Health on their two months old strike they all agreed in Abuja that they will resume on the 6th of June.

“When we came we wrote to the management as  agreed that we should resume work on the 6th June but the Management did not reply and we never got a reply  from them because usually they supposed to acknowledge every mail we give, they didn’t do that when we did not see it we wrote them that we want to have a discussion with them and they wrote a reply to us with a date but only for us to get to the Board room venue of the meeting that very day and discovered that the COMMAND was not around it was only the Chairman Medical Advisory Council( CMAC) and the Representative of the Director of Administration on that note we said we need all the top management to be on board .

” we have a discussion now the CMAC was to communicate the CMD that we have not heard from them after that, we discovered that at the end of June that Salaries were paid to the few of us the salaries started dropping and, we though since is the IPPS issue and Banks with network as is used to be but what we discovered was that in UBA for example only three were paid in first Bank only two or one will be paid so that is the erratic kind of payment so we still gave him three days period”

” We saw the COMMAND and we lodged a complaint where we discovered that June salaries were paid with this erratic kind of payment but he still asked us to be patient and wait that is why we are in haste’’.

“We should wait and give him time, last week we met here on Monday apart from those people nobody saw alert again and we decided to make our contacts and we got enough information.

“We  told  the head of department of account to send a text which I have it in my phone now that only three hundred and ninety four staff of JUTH were paid and the reason is that is IPPS that made the mistake.

And there was no explanation even when we demanded that we should meet and demand vivid explanation to give our members they declined that they will not do that, so we have no option than to tell our congress today what we have decided.

“we are at work they have signed, our fear is that somebody who has not been paid for about four months now will not go to ward for example as a Nurse you are hungry instead of giving injection on the buttocks you are giving in the Eye because you cannot see and coordinate, so we will be there and be sitting down and barricade the administrative blocks and accounts”.

It would be recalled that on the 1st of June 2016, the management of the hospital signed a Memorandum of understanding.
