Judicial, Legislative Reforms In Nigeria A Must – Gov. Ganduje

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has said that in the light of the Buhari administration’s anti corruption agenda, the bar and the bench in the country must be regenerated.
Speaking while receiving members of the A. B. Mahmoud Campaign Organization in Kano, Governor Ganduje stated “that as critical stakeholders in the dispensation of justice, the bar and bench must be born again, to play the role expected of them”.
He said when the Buhari administration took over, the popular outcry was for meaningful change in all public affairs, and expressed delight that the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has articulated desire to ensure that it puts in a place new leadership that will transform the legal profession in the country.
Stressing that the legal system reform is necessary for the sustenance of the nation’s democracy, Dr. Ganduje said A.B. Mahmoud is eminently qualified to lead the NBA to greater heights in view of his antecedents and the caliber of learned gentlemen on his campaign team.
In his remarks earlier, Alh. A.B. Mahmoud, SAN, stated that he is in the race for the NBA presidency because of his desire to invigorate the judiciary, adding that one of the things he intends to initiate is the State Justice Sector Assessment Programme, to cover all states in the federation.
He expressed delight that the state government is passionate about the rule of law, saying he is impressed that the relationship between the state government and the judiciary is very cordial
Alh. A. B. Mahmoud, SAN, was accompanied on the visit by amongst others, Dr. Garba Tetengi, SAN, mni, who is the alternate chairman of the A. B. Mahmoud Campaign Steering Committee, Mr. Muritala Abdul-Rasheed, Director General of the Committee, Barr. Maliki Kuliya Umar, immediate past Attorney-General of Kano state and Mr. Alex Muoka, immediate past chairman of the Lagos Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
