Journalist Alleges Treat By Outgoing Gombe House Of Assembly Speaker

Reporter of the Peoples Daily newspaper in Gombe Mr. David Hassan has alleged a threat to his life by the out-going Speaker of Gombe State House of Assembly, Alhaji Inuwa Garba over a report published in his paper.
He said the report in question, captioned: “Gombe Speaker orders the removal of borehole in Gari Bappi” was published on Tuesday April 28, 2015 edition of Peoples Daily newspaper.
He said the former Chairman of Conference of Nigerian Speakers who vowed to deal with him in any form also threatened a law suit against him and his organisation.
Hassan who now wants urgent security intervention to guarantee his safety yesterday reported the matter to the Police for immediate action.
His letter of complaints addressed to the Commissioner of Police Gombe state reads: “I hereby write to inform the police authority that I Mr. David Hassan, member of the Correspondents Chapel in Gombe and a reporter of Peoples Daily newspaper is being threatened by the Speaker of Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Inuwa Garba for a publication that was published on Tuesday April, 20, 2015 with caption: Gombe Speaker orders removal of boreholes in Gari Bappi.
“However, I want to draw the attention of the police that the Speaker has vowed to deal with me in any form. He also threatened to sue me based on the said matter.
“I am calling on the police as a matter of urgency to act fast in order to save my life as my life is in danger. I hereby inform the police that anything that should happen to me, the Speaker should be held responsible.”

He said the Speaker called him on his GSM phone at about 9:00am on Wednesday and issued the threats as well as accused him of being paid to blackmail him.
