JIMAF, WISH Identifies Challenges Of Family Planning In Jigawa

Mika’il Tsoho

The Jigawa Maternal Accountability Forum ( JiMAF) with support from Women’s Integrated Service or Health (WISH) highlights five major challenges associated with smooth practices of Family Planning in Jigawa state.

The challenges were identified by the JiMAF and disseminated the findings during a session with stakeholders held on Thursday at the manpower development institute Dutse.

Presenting the findings to the participants, the executive director of Exceptional Leadership and Integrity Promotion Initiative (ELIP) comrade Isah Mustapha said, the challenges are many but the major can be categorized into five challenges.

He explained that, an inadequate budget for family planning, delayed requests of funds, and zero release to family planning activities in the state.

Other findings include the stuck out of family planning services in many primary and secondary health facilities that may hamper the high demand for family planning services by community members as well as the consistent increase in family planning allocation and releases.

Comrade Isa Mustapha presents the recommendation made by JiMAF to increase public investment in family planning and health sectors at large.

The recommendation urged the government to sustain a commitment to a yearly increase of family planning, allocation and release while MDAs should prioritize family planning and timely request of funds.

Other recommendations said, that the allocation to family planning is grossly inadequate as the recent family planning commodities and consumables by the Federal government need to increase the allocation of adequate supplies.
