Jigawa State Will Remain As The Safest And Secured State In Nigeria-Jigawa Commissioner Of Police

Umar Akilu Majeri

The insecurity challenges in Jigawa state, like other states in the federation, require a multi-dimensional approach. However, there are also numerous challenges militating against countering such insecurity which include the lapses in intelligence gathering and lack of utilization of some and lack of adequate synergy between the security agencies in Shari g of intelligence as each agency strive to gather information single-handedly which they use it for their agency alone

Other lapses include lack of adequate logistics by the security agencies eg operational vehicles, arms, and ammunition with superior firing power as well as inadequate funding by the government.

This was disclosed by the state commissioner of police Jigawa state in a paper presented to the participants of course 30 of the National defense college Nigeria on their study tour to Jigawa state.

The commissioner said other lapses include lack of tracking devices to track the locations of high profile criminals

He also condemned the negative attitude in volunteering information by members of the general public to security agencies

He added that the security also has problems with effective communication gadgets in the state as the walkie-talkie in the Jigawa command cannot go beyond the Dutse metropolis.

He explained further that the Jigawa state police command in its efforts to reduce the rate of crime and criminality in the state has taken some practical measures to counter the rate of insecurity in the state

Among the measures, is that there is a joint patrol among the security agencies across the state and visibility policing was adopted by the state police command within both state and federal roads.

The commissioner said Jjigawa state is relatively peaceful compared to its neighboring state in the federation because of its collaborative efforts with all security agencies and support from the state government who always render their support whenever the need arises.

The commissioner added that if this tempo is maintained or improved the state will for sure remain one of the safest and secured states in the country
