Jigawa Customs Intercepts Tramadol Drugs, Rice Worth N30million Along Border Line In Jigawa(Photos)

The Jigawa Niger Border has become very porous that smugglers now used cow trucks as well as camels to transport illicit drugs and illegally import rice.

The comptroller in charge of Kano and Jigawa Malam Yusuf Abba Kasim said his men confiscated 38 cartons of tramadol inside the bush which was transported by locally made cattle trucks covered by grass along Galadi Village of Birniwa local government area of Jigawa State.

The Comptroller explained further that the said drugs confiscated were worth over N20 million naira and that of the 38 Cartons tramadol from calculation over 5000 packs were found at a farm covered by grass.

kasim said the customs office has received series of reports from the general public that the smugglers do hide and smuggled drugs with the aid of cow trucks whereby they cover them with animal grass or food from farms.

He added that alongside with the Tramadol were other items which include 500 bags of rice worth N6.5million which was hidden inside 70 bags of beans all loaded inside two Lorries from Maigatari market heading to Kaduna state.

The arrested vehicles have been impounded at the Customs headquarter in Kano as the owners of the properties are yet to be found, while he said the driver will be taken to court as well as the owners of the items when they are arrested.

According to an investigation conducted by this medium,  it was gathered that Maigatari border has now become porous that smugglers use it to escape from the Customs.
