The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for Friday’s deadly attack at a packed concert at the Crocus City Hall, in Moscow, Russia.
Several gunmen stormed the concert venue and opened fire on concert goers, killing 40 and injuring more than 100 others.
The CNN reports that the terror group took responsibility for the attack in a short statement published by ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram on Friday.
The group did not provide evidence to support the claim.
ISIS has carried out attacks in a number of countries, but the BBC noted that the group has at times in the past claimed responsibility for attacks that it had nothing to do with.
On Friday, gunmen killed 40 people with more than 100 wounded at the Crocus City Hall.
According to the BBC, several gunmen dressed in camouflage entered the Crocus City Hall in a suburb of Moscow and opened fire at people gathered for a rock concert.
Video footage from inside the concert hall shows at least four attackers firing indiscriminately at screaming civilians trying to run away
Several explosions were heard, and there was a huge fire in the building, which caused part of the roof near the theatre to collapse
Authorities managed to evacuate 100 people hiding in the basement and there are reports some of the attackers have barricaded themselves inside.
Dramatic video shows panicked concertgoers taking cover as shots and explosions ring out. A large fire has engulfed the roof of the complex and Russia’s national guard is searching for the gunmen who have yet to be identified.
According to the FSB Federal Security Service, all possible measures were being taken to provide assistance to those affected as a result of the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall.
The FSB said the special services are carrying out active search measures following the emergency in the Crocus complex.
