Integrated Tax Management System To Kick-Start By BIR In Imo

Dan Opara

The management-leadership of the Imo State Board of Internal Revenue, BIR, will soon commence the effective implementation of the Integrated Tax Management System, as part of boosting the Internally Generated Revenue of the State.

The above assertion was made by Chairman of the Board, Hon.Nze Charles Onwunali, during a press briefing in his Owerri office, recently.

He said out of about 1.3 million taxable adults in the state, only about 3000 are in the tax net as data recognized.

He, therefore, promised that the board will collaborate with agencies such as the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, to get data of Imolites who have registered businesses.

He said the PEYE system can determine the number of those who registered businesses, knowing the companies, profiling, assessment, and data capturing.

“All the reforms we will introduce will aim to change the narrative going forward for better”.

He disclosed that his management had taken delivery of 1500 plate numbers since assumption of office and promised that the board was poised to serve Imo people well while generating internal revenue for the state government.

On the controversies over the reinstatement of sacked staff of the board, he said about 57 staff of the board were redeployed by the immediate past administration but with the directive of the governor on the reinstatement of sacked staff, over 200 people came to claim they were the former staff of the board.

He said investigation/verification was ongoing to determine the real disengaged staff to reinstate them.
