Inspector General Of Police Pledges Loyalty To The New Chairman Of The Police Service Commission

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum-Idris has pledged the loyalty of the Force to the new chairman of the Police Service Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith.

IGP Idris who made the pledge when he visited Smith, retired Inspector General of Police, in his office in Abuja also requested for the support and assistance of the commission’s chairman to move the Police forward.

In his response, Smith assured the IGP that the commission, under his control, will do its best to assist the Police. He noted however that that there is need for the Force and the commission to work closely so as to quickly put structures in place to reposition the Police.

He reiterated his dissatisfaction with the public image of the Police, stressing that the commission would want to quickly work with the Force to change the negative perception.

He also made a case for training and retraining in the Police and also the need for accommodation for officers and men of the Force so that they can be properly settled to give their best.

The PSC chairman called for closer supervision in the Police to ensure that officers work within the dictates of the law. Alhaji Smith also recommended the setting up of the IGP Monitoring team specifically for checking the conduct of Police personnel, especially those working on the nation’s highways to ensure they work as expected of them.
