Injured DSP Musa Mohammed, Won’t Be Abandoned, To Receive National Award, Best Treatment-Arase

The Police Service Commission has intervened in the case of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Musa Mohammed, of Police Mobile Force (PMF) 45 Abuja, who sustained serious injuries at Galadimawa Forest, near Kaduna, when he led a team to engage kidnappers in a gun duel in an attempt to rescue a kidnapped victim.

This was conveyed in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Commission, Mr Ikechukwu Ani.

According to the statement, “DSP Mohammed, who now uses crutches, sustained bullet wounds that affected his leg and ability to pass urine.

“The injured Officer had taken his case to Human Rights Radio (Berekete) in Abuja, where he sought intervention from relevant Government Agencies after he felt he may have been abandoned.”

The statement explained that the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police who was contacted by the Radio station, had since moved to rectify the situation and restore the affected Officer to a proper and normal life.

It further explained that Dr. Arase had succeeded in debriefing the Officer and had also sent him to the Force Medical Officer, where he had undergone several medical procedures.

According to the statement, Dr Arase, who commended the Police Force Medical Team presently taking care of his condition, assured that he would take the matter up with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, as a way forward to seek better treatment for the injured Mobile Police Officer.

It added that Dr. Arase promised that the Commission would not abandon the Officer, stating, “PSC has this position that such Officers are deserving of national awards. They should be celebrated, and we will make the recommendation,” he noted.

The statement further added that the PSC Chairman said the Commission would ensure that he receives succour to enable him to live his normal life again.

He commended Nigerians who rose in unison to bring the condition of the Officer to the public’s attention, saying, “It underscores the need for public Officers to always respect the human rights of citizens and treat them with respect.”
