INEC To Conduct Fresh Voter’s Registration In 9-Zero Polling Units In Nasarawa State—–Resident Electoral Commissioner By Rabiu Omaku,Lafia

Piqued by the unabated  communal and ethnic violence in Nasarawa state, The Independent National Electoral Commission and the security operatives in the state has listed some communities in the state as a hard-to go area in the forthcoming distribution of permanent voter’s card and the continuous registration of eligible voter’s card in the state.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ahmed Makama has warned the general public and stakeholders ranging from corp members and ad-hoc staff to decease from distributing permanent voter’s card in proxy or face the full wrath of the law.

The commissioner gave the indication during a stakeholders meeting on the distribution of permanent voter’s card and the continuous registration of voter’s scheduled for 7th/11/2014.

Ahmed Makama maintained that the commission would conduct a fresh voters’ registration in 19 polling units which he described as 19-zero polling units.

“The 19-zero polling units registered no fewer than 50 voters”, He further opined that the commission would conduct fresh exercise in the area so as to tackle the anomalies in ensuring that all eligible voters exercise their civic right”.

“The 19-zero polling units cut across Awe, Lafia and Toto,He further explained that Awe has 1 zero polling units,Lafia has 15 polling units and Toto has 2.

Ahmed Makama cautioned eligible voters in the state to shun double registration, Saying double registration is illegal and liable for conviction if caught, He in addition called on all eligible voters that want to transfer their voters card from one place or another.

“All requests for transfer of voter’s card must be done 30 days before elections, The Inec boss said only those registered in 2011,have attained 18 years are eligible for permanent voters card”.

Advising that registration is a prerequisite for voting in election, registration is a public exercise in order to be monitored by national and international observers, party agents as well as representatives of media organization.

Makama said 1.2m voters card would be distributed to eligible voters cut across the 1,495 polling units.

The commissioner sue for itch-free exercise ,He assured the people of the state by creating an enabling environment during and after the exercise.
