The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Plateau State said the Commission is set for the conduct of 2015 general election billed to commerce 14th Feb, 2015 in plateau state.
The state commission revealed this to Journalists in INEC’s office in Jos the plateau state capital.
The INEC commissioner represented by the Head of Department voters Education and Publicity Osaretin Imahiyereobo said already the commission has received the ballot boxes that would be use for the election, infact two trailer load of what is to be use in the election had just arrived, the commission said what is left now is the none sensitive material that will not come until towards the election period.
The Head of Education to the commission said to add to the level of the commission preparedness for the conduct of the election ,the names of all the candidates to participant in the election has also be released, this would enable the political parties to know those eligible for the election.
He also said the name of registered voters were also released at the national level, the photo copy of the name will be send to them at the state level, on those whose names may not have be on the voter registration register, the commission educator said ,before now, the commission had directed respective voters to check their names in the commission website for them to be sure that their name are there.
Osaretin said those to be recruited as an ad hoc staff for the election, a date will be fixed by the INEC headquarters in Abuja and they will in turn communicate them at the state level appropriately.
He noted that those qualified to apply as an ad hoc staff for the election are all state and tertiary institutions in the country which 70% of them will come from the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) because of the commission’s memorandum of understanding with NYSC.
These he said is to avoid making it all comer affairs like in the previous elections in Nigeria and to avoid interference from politicians.
In addition to the pre-qualification as an ad hoc staff, all eligible ad hoc staff most be residing in the local government he or she is to take part in the election to avoid any hitch associated with going late to open the polling unit.
On security during the election for those participating in the election, he said the commission had set the ball rolling with the visit of royal fathers ,community leaders and other opinion moulders the need to sensitise their subjects against violence free during and after election.
