The Independent National Electoral commission, INEC, has declared the immediate past speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu in the keenly contested and tension soaked Imo North (Okigwe zone) rerun and supplementary elections as senator elect.
Declaring him the winner of the poll, Friday morning, the INEC returning officer for the election, prof Arinze Agbogu informed that the APC candidate scored a total number of 56,076 votes to defeat his closest opponent, senator Athan Achonu of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who garnered 43,815 votes.
The electoral body had declared as inconclusive the rerun election held July 23,and fixed Thursday supplementary election in polling units where the polls didn’t take place on the first date.
APC had headed to the supplementary rerun election with a lead margin of 8,777 votes and completed the famous victory with a total of 12, 261 votes difference after smashing the polls on the second time.
INEC equally announced the APC candidates in Isiala Mbano and Oru East State constituencies, Dr Chiji Collins and Hon Nkenna Nzeruo winners of the rerun elections also held simultaneously in the areas with that of Imo North Senatorial district own.
APC was also announced winner of the rerun election held Saturday in Owerri West State constituency.
