The Imo State Police Command announced that its operatives have recorded another significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
According to the release dated November 5, 2025, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, known as Tiger Base, in synergy with local vigilante groups, successfully dislodged kidnappers’ hideouts in Okuku Community and Ndegwu Community, both in Owerri West Local Government Area.
The intelligence-driven operation, coordinated by the Tiger Base Unit Commander, ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, led to the recovery of a decomposed corpse from one of the hideouts located within an abandoned livestock farm deep inside the Okuku in Owerri West LGA, (Okuku-Agwa) forests in Oguta LGA of Imo State.
The scene was immediately cordoned off, and the body was carefully evacuated by police operatives before being taken to the morgue for further forensic examination.
Samples have also been collected by the Command’s Forensic Unit and will be subjected to DNA analysis to ascertain whether they match that of Barrister Jeffery Ucheagwu, a male indigene of Ihembosi, who was abducted and allegedly murdered by unknown murderers on October 14, 2025, at Site and Services, Umuguma, in Owerri West Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, the dislodged hideouts have been placed under 24-hour surveillance to prevent the criminals from regrouping and to aid further intelligence gathering on their operations.
The Command has intensified efforts to apprehend the gang members responsible for the abduction of the barrister and to ensure his possible rescue if he is still alive.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, commended the operatives for their professionalism and gallantry, reaffirming the Command’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Imo State.
He further appealed to the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of the Police through the timely provision of credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The press release was duly signed by DSP Henry Okoye, Anipr, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Imo State Command.
