I’ll Appeal The Court Ruling Against My Case On Ex-Gov. Ngilari’s Tenure Extension Says Ardo

  • Says it is a serious miscarriage of Justice against the people of Adamawa

A former governorship aspirant in Adamawa State and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Umar Ardo has said that he will appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court Abuja which on Tuesday dismissed a suit he filed seeking an extension of tenure of former-Adamawa Governor, Bala Ngilari, until Feb. 12, 2016.

Ardo in a statement signed by him stated thus; “This clearly a faulty judgement occasioning a serious miscarriage of justice against the people of Adamawa state.”

According to Ardo he said; “There is a Supreme Court judgment which I put before the court that on a case of constitutional infraction locos is not required.”

“In any case, the judgment has only reinforced my long held conviction that the Nigerian judiciary is centrally responsible for the systematic destruction of constitutionalism, rule of law and justice in our democratization process – the very values that it is established to enforced.

What a great pity that the administration of justice by our courts has become the major impediment to justice for our people. I think if the present administration has to make any real change at all, it needs to start with the judiciary. That is where the real problem is.”

It will be recalled that Ardo had sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and 12 political parties over the conduct of a fresh governorship election in the state which produced incumbent Governor Umar Bindow, while the tenure of Ngilari had yet to expire until Feb. 12, 2016.

The former Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari, took office as Adamawa State Governor following the impeachment of former governor Murtala Nyako, to complete their tenure which was to end on Feb. 12, 2016, but INEC went ahead to conduct a fresh governorship election in the state on April 11.

Delivering judgment on the suit, the trial judge, Justice Evoh Chukwu, held that Ardo lacked the locus standi to institute the action because he was “neither an interested party nor a government official.’’
