IGP Approves DCP Osifo Tony Emefile As Police Representative On Interim Management Committee Of The Nigeria Football Professional League

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has graciously approved Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Osifo Tony Emefile, as the Representative of the Nigeria Police Force on the Interim Management Committee for the Nigeria Football Professional League.

DCP Osifo who has over three (3) decades of robust sporting experience with particular discipline in football, is a distinguished Sportsman. He was a cerebral member of the Police Machine Team that qualified from the Nigerian Amateur League for the 1st time in the history of the Force, gaining promotion to the Nigerian Professional League for the 1993/1994 season. He was the highest goal scorer in that league, thereby earning the prestigious “Bournvita Award”.

Subsequently, he was a member of the Gold Medal winning Force Headquarters Football Team for the 1996 Biennial Nigeria Police Games held in Kaduna. He was a member of the Benue State Police Command Football team that participated in the Benue State Football League from 1996－1999.

DCP Osifo was responsible for introducing the game of Scrabble to the Sports Programme of the Force and it featured for the first time at the 2008 edition of the Biennial Police Games held in Lagos, and the Sport has continued to feature in subsequent editions. He was a Board member of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation from 2013 – 2017 and Chairman of the Police Scrabble Association from 2008 – 2021 serving under several Sub-Committees as delegated.

In 2021, he became the Caretaker Chairman of the Police Athletics Association during which period he led the Police Track and Field Athletes to several laudable National Gold Medal outings until his promotion to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police in 2022. He was the Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee for the 13th Biennial Nigeria Police Games Intra-Zonal Eliminations which held in Kaduna in 2021. He continues in that capacity as Chairman of the same Sub-Committee for the Games Finals which will hold in Uyo – Akwa Ibom State from 23rd to 30th November, 2022.

The Senior Officer with his diverse and far reaching experience in Sports is currently concluding a Course in Strategic Studies (fsi – in view).

While extoling the IGP for the gracious approval, the Force Sports Officer DCP Patrick A. Atayero, also conveyed the hearty congratulations of the Chairman/Sole Administrator Force Sports Planning Committee – AIG Hafiz M. Inuwa, mni, to DCP Osifo, on behalf of the Force Sports family. He urged the Senior Officer to do justice to his representation of the Force drawing from his wealth of knowledge and experience, while assuring him of the confidence and support of the Force as evident in the appointment.
