I Am Still Nasarawa NLC Chairman– Embattled State NLC Chair, Adeka

48 hours after the passage of no confidence on the Nasarawa state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the embattled chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adeka said he remain the chairman of NLC in the state.

He hinted this when members of the Medical and Health Workers Union, the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state pass a vote of confidence on the  chairman to continue in office.

The chairman alongside members barricaded the secretariat along Makurdi road broke into the office locked by members of the faction Comrade Bala Umar.

Other unions that did not join the present strike also include members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, The Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions back out of the ongoing strike.

The embattled said his removal was a plot by some Association leaders to disorganize the effort of Nigeria Labour Congress to fight a good cause for workers in the state.

Appealed to workers in the state not to be carried away by the purported suspension that, he said are acting on their personal interest not the broad spectrum populace.

Comrade Adeka in his addressed said NLC is suspending the strike for the interest of workers as he listed reasons to includes

  1. The collective bargaining treaty that was agreed between the government and labour side in December, 2016,government have started the implementation Judiciously
  2. Consider the feature of our children that are about commencing National Examination Council,Basic Education ,Jamb
  3. Putting into consideration is the issue of maternal and Child health programme that would commence this Monday nationwide.
  4. Based on our submission in the last congress meeting, the congress are not in support of Joining the strike eg NUT, NMA, MHWUN, NANNM, JUSUN, TUC.

Adeka also announced the recalling of the state NULGE President, Comrade Abdullahi Abubakar Alaye saying the recall was a measure to correct the drift of Injustice meted on him by some Association leaders.

Saying the NLC and the state government are partners in progress but not for, he further maintained that NLC will continue to dialogue with the government to ensure that all entitlement of our members are catered for.

Also in a press release signed by the secretary of the Trade Union Council, Comrade Muhammed Umar Doma dated 12/05/2017 with a headline “TUC Concurred With NLC Workers Should Go back To Work” the release read thus:

“We have observed that the crisis in the Organized Labour with government which the TUC is a member has reached it climax without yeulding any fruitful results”.

” We members of TUC concurred with the position of the labour that workers should go back to work, while the elders of the state, particularly the traditional rulers are talking with government with a view to reaching an amicable agreement “.

The chairman accused leaders of the Union for fomenting confusion.
