How The Outstanding Performance of Senator Onawo Is Unsettling Political Class In Nasarawa South

The name Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo is a household name in the politics of not only Doma North constituency or Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency but the entire Nasarawa South Senatorial zone comprises of Awe, Doma, Lafia, Keana, and Obi Local Governments.

Is one politician who rose from an elective position representing the good people of Doma North constituency under the auspices of the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party as way back as 2003, despite all odds as a freshly elected member of the second Assembly, He was elected as the second speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

Because of his outstanding performance, he was re-elected as a member, not a Speaker reason being that the then Governor of the State, Late Madaucin Doma, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma was from the same Local Government, served for another four years, That is spending two consecutive terms at the State Assembly and was called by his people to migrate to national politics, He again contested for the elective position representing Awe/Doma/Keana (PDP), That is 2011 to 2015 and 2015 to 2019 which he contested for senate primaries and loose to the occupant in the same political party, Then  Senator Suleiman Adokwe.

After his defeat at the party primaries, he went on a political sabbatical from 2019 to 2023 where he again contested and clinched the Nasarawa South Senatorial district ticket during the party primaries under the same PDP with the former Director General of National Orientation Agency, Mike Omeri.

In the 2023 general election, the incumbent Senator, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo defeated the occupant of the seat and a two-term Governor of the State under the banner of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, Some political analysts are of the view that the current senator’s followership cut across the five Local Governments of Awe, Doma, Lafia, Keana and Obi respectively.

Opinion shapers are of the view that certain factors also contributed to the landslide victory of Onawo, whom some politicians in Nasarawa South described as a grassroots politician. His performance within his first year has unsettled his opponents in the zone.

In the last twelve months, Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo  has taken a bold  steps to reduce the rising spate of unemployment in his senatorial zone by employing  over 20 graduates and few under graduates alike cut across various fields of human endeavor with representatives across communities.

RESUSCITATION OF DOMA DAM

The multi billion naira Doma dam  would in no  distance time  pass through thorough resuscitation ,This would be a collaborative effort between  Distinguished  Senator Onawo  and the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority with the aimed of enhancing water supply  to the host  community as well the  expansion  of the dam whose water knows no dry season to includes extension of water supply to Lafia,The State capital and Obi Local Government respectively.The gigantic project if fully resuscitated  would end the unabated hardship and perennial water shortage as vast communities in Nasarawa South relied on water from commercial boreholes or boreholes by individuals.

The resuscitation of the multi billion naira Doma dam,A  Federal Government project conceived under ” the Green Revolution” of the reign of former President  Ibrahim Shehu Shagari ,The project would also enhance power supply as power supply is a serious setback to the dam which relied solely on electricity, The project will again improve drying  season  or irrigation farming.

AWARDED CONTRACT FOR THE SINKING OF 20 BOREHOLES

The Senator  representing Nasarawa South Senatorial district has reiterated his determination to ameliorate the acute shortage and long search for potable drinking water  in  communities and its environs awarded a contract for the sinking of twenty (20) boreholes across the five Local Governments, This single act will bring an end to the perennial water shortage across communities  as no frantic effort was made by the State Government to cushion  the effect of acute  water shortage over the years as residents of the five Local Governments relied on commercial boreholes and water vendors.

“This road was gazetted way back 1974 but to no avail,The trepidation of any sons and daughters of Doma is for God to bring a messier from Doma who will facilitate the construction of the road”.And today with the intervention of Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo ,true son of the Soil, the tales  of the Federal road has come to pass.
