How Over 50 Gunmen Attacked Kebbi Communities, Killed Eight Persons, Many Abducted

Gunmen have killed eight people and abducted many others during an attack on residents of Kaiwa, Gebbe, and Gelawa communities in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Daily Post reports that more than 50 armed bandits arrived in large groups on motorcycles and spread across the affected areas almost at the same time.

It quoted a local source as revealing that while many villagers desperately ran towards nearby bushes for safety, others were overwhelmed before they could escape.

“We saw them riding into our community, and immediately, people began to run for safety, but some were not so lucky. They killed more than eight people and abducted an unspecified number of others,” the source said.

The source narrated that the heavy gunfire created intense fear, forcing many residents to flee their homes and seek refuge in surrounding settlements and forests.

He added that the full casualty figure remains uncertain because several residents are still scattered and displaced.

Meanwhile, Bashir Usman, police spokesman of the Kebbi State Command, confirmed the attack and disclosed that joint security operations had commenced in the affected locations.

He confirmed that seven victims initially died in Kaiwa, Gebbe, and Gelawu before another injured resident later passed away while receiving medical attention.

The police spokesperson assured that security agencies are intensifying efforts to stabilise the area and protect the remaining residents.
