Family members of scores of women who fainted during a stampede at the distribution of foodstuffs and cash donated by the immediate past Inspector General of Police, Retired IGP Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, expressed grief over the development.
According to an eyewitness who was among the one thousand and twenty beneficiaries of the foodstuff concealed in a big “Ghana Must Go” for onward distribution, the eyewitness has revealed.
A beneficiary, Rabi, revealed that no fewer than twenty women slumped, excluding those who fainted due to the struggle to get the items, which were supervised by the wife of the former IGP, held at the Doma Guest House.
She narrated that the majority of women who were given cards, only one hundred were given the “Ghana Must Go” with a cash of N10,000 during the symbolic distribution, while the retired IGP was present at the scene.
“The beneficiaries conducted themselves well, until the coming of one of the security agencies on their arrival, instead of calming the saturated situation, ignited another round of scramble”.
It was alleged that security operatives at the premises ignited the stampede and were seen with vehicles moving away with loads concealed in “Ghana Must Go”.
It was gathered that the former IGP, who is also a Governorship aspirant in the State, started a symbolic presentation of an envelope which contained N10, 000, but as soon as he left the venue, the money being shared, which was inside the envelopes, was reduced to N3, 000.
