If current results in some local governments particularly Gwarzo and several other polling units within Kano metropolis is anything to go by as gathered by DESERT HERALD, then Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s in-law and youthful former Commissioner, Abba Kabir Yusuf is on his way to defeat incumbent Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Abba’s anticipated victory is the handiwork of the undisputed political godfather of Kano politics, Sen. Kwankwaso who is expected to singlehandedly deliver the state for his party. The odds against Mr. Ganduje prior to today’s election which was overlooked by the APC despite concerns are many.
Ganduje has been embroiled in a major and embarrassing scandal of bribery in a video and has become popular as a Governor known for collecting huge gratification as a condition for giving out contracts and land allocations.
As a result of the convincing dossier of evidences against him and despite efforts by his media handlers to change public opinion, majority of Kano electorates are convinced beyond reasonable doubts that their governor is corrupt.
Another odd against the governor is the lavish and flamboyant wedding ceremony at a time of extreme poverty he organised for his daughter, and the glaring display of immorality which featured his daughter at the events. Sen. Kwankwaso has sufficiently used the many odds against Mr. Ganduje during most of his campaign rallies for Abba with a crowd that convinced everybody that if the guber election in particular will be free and fair, Kwankwaso’s candidate will squarely defeat the embattled incumbent Governor.
So far, Mr. Abba is in clear lead and is highly unlikely if Ganduje will gather enough to contain the lead.
