How Gov. Ortom Is Growing Poverty In Benue -Comrade Richard Gbawuan

Yakubu Busari

The Governorship Candidate of Zenith Labour  Party ,ZLP, in Benue State ,Comrade Comrade Richard Gbawuan  has described Governor Samuel Ortom four years as the worst in the history of the state with growing poverty and unemployment rate  which he said is ravaging the state in spite of  deposits of solid minerals and agrarian communities in the state situated along the river bank.

Comrade Gbawuan in an exclusive interview with our correspondent at his Jos office disclosed that his ambition tagged ” Benue solution 2019″ was to salvage the good people of Benue state considering suffering and underdevelopment the state has been in many times.

I have gone around the country and those serving their states are willing to deliver on the gain of democracy but in Benue is different.

He said the general decay on infrastructures where everything has collapsed was what inspired him if they have given me mandate I would have turned things around for the betterment of the state.

The Governorship candidate lamented that first of all one need to see that Benue state is an agrarian state which if harnessed well will give employment to unemployed youths and turn the state for better.

Richard Gbawuan expressed sadness that there is no part of the state that doesn’t have river which would have turned the fortune of the state, especially Palm trees, plantation, fishing and another aspect of farming if that is done we should have compared ourselves with Malaysia ,we have a lot of products that can enhance the lives of people .

He noted that Benue people can overcome the challenges of poverty if they can plant sugarcane, mangoes and encourage the establishment of cottage industries and that revamp the agriculture sector that will prevent rural-Uban migration and encourage entrepreneurship  and create employment to the teeming youth by stopping challenges of insecurity of lives that  has brought about threat to people.

According to him, at least with the hope of improving on the gains of the economic improvement and improving the wellbeing and prevent medical tourism outside the shores of Nigeria.

However, Richard Gbawuan reiterated that the welfare of teachers is very paramount and prompt payment of salaries to civil servants will fix the agriculture sector and health sector.

He frowned that Governors depend on a federal allocation that, “if you depend on this monthly allocations one day that will end.

“You can see that nothing was put in place to address the plight of people, I want to assure you that the people of Benue are not feeling the impact of Samuel Ortom government”, he explained.

Gbawuan said that the 2019 general poll was characterized by irregularities, the people were bought over with a plate of rice, wrappers which I objected to as I see that it is cheap publicity campaign of calumny knowing that at the end people of Benue would ripe what they sow.

My observation, the Nigeria police is surrounded with issues of money, I remembered a particular incident where cash was distributed at polling units and voters go to display their vote and someone is watching to give them money very sad for this Nigeria democracy, he added.

“I won’t have ventured into politics if Ortom has done credibly well in 2919 “, it was indeed heartbroken that under the prevailing economic realities especially now that he has no economic blueprint to bring an end to poverty in Benue State,” Gbawuan cries out.
