Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has accused his predecessor, Senator Jonah Jang of using the workers’ strike during his time as Governor to siphon and embezzled more than N7 billion belonging to Plateau State where the said amount channeled into a private account.

Lalong while receiving Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE’s leadership on Thursday stated the above allegation against his predecessor.

It would be recalled that the NULGE leadership were at the Government House to show their support for Lalong especially in the quick payments of workers’ salaries and pensions.

Speaking Lalong said, he inherited undemocratic policies ‘no work, no pay’ and backlog of salaries and arrears from his predecessor, but he is not leaving anything to chance to offset the arrests.

“That is what my predecessor used to divert over N7 billion during the strike, where the N7 billion developed wings and flew away.

“Since I came in, I promised that the welfare of workers in the state will remain my topmost priority.

“It is in this regard that when the bailout issue came I called the labour leaders to set up a committee to handle it, but my opponents keep saying I diverted the money.

“The Paris Club also came and I still channeled it to the committee and I told them to ensure it is utilized for the purpose.

“That’s why I am confident and in full support of the probe of state governors so that at the end, the truth will come out.”
