There was a very heavy tragedy on Thursday, April 30th 2020 in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, as a 9 storey building still ongoing collapsed leaving about 2 young men dead, 11 persons rescued with injuries, whereas about 20 labourers are still missing.
The above information was given to our reporter by some eye witnesses.
More than four (4) pay-loaders, excavators, other earth-moving machines were seen at work trying to exhume the bodies of some workers who were alleged to be over 20 persons at the site.
However, the Site Manager/Engineer’s way-about yet at large, but his vehicle was seen at the premises of the collapsed building.
Also, the unidentified building owner who allegedly resides abroad was not unable to be reached by some persons who claimed to have known him.
More so, the management of the Owerri Capital Development Authority, OCDA, was obviously fingered of compromising mostly of issuing multiple building approvals to the owner years ago.
Therefore, the Imo State Government through the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Barr.Nnamdi Anyaehie, who was seen present in solidarity as at the press time, expressed sympathy to families of the victims (deceased) and allegedly condemned the strength-of-materials used in the construction of the building.
