Hon  Lumumba  Emerges Bassa LG APC Sole Candidate For Jos North/Bassa Fed Constituency  Bye-Election

The  Jos North /Bassa Federal Constituency Congress on Monday, Hon Lumumba Adah Adeh has emerged as the sole candidate for Bassa Local Government Council after the contest held for all the aspirants.

The Committee set up by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to come up with a sole candidate to face other political parties for the Bye-Election for Jos North Bassa Federal Constituency concluded its work on Monday after conducting mock primaries for the three aspirants who emerged from the mocked Primaries at the three chiefdoms that make up the local government.

At the end of the exercise, Hon. Lumumba Da Adeh polled 58 while Yusuf Daudu scored 5 votes. However, Babale Ibrahim Maitala who pulled out of the exercise scored 0.

In an interview after the election, Hon. Da Adeh described the outcome of the exercise as a demonstration of confidence in his ability and capability to represent them in the forthcoming Bye-Election.

Consequently, he called on the other two contestants and other contestants that have indicated interest to consider what happened as a family affair stressing that the common objective was to have one of them represent them all.

He further called on them to put behind all that transpired in the course of the exercise and join hands to deliver the party to ensure that APC re-occupy the office which belonged Bassa abnitio until the demise of Haruna Maitala.

Hon. Adeh also advised the APC to mobilize the people and reconcile its members,  all stakeholders aspirants in other to forge a common and formidable front against other political parties when the Bye-Election is held.

After the death of the representative of the Constituency, Hon. Haruna Maitala on April 02, 2021, the APC in its wisdom set up a committee headed by Sen. Timothy Adudu with a mandate to come up a consensus candidate from Bassa LGA to complete the tenure of the deceased who was from the local government area.

It was gathered that the committee began its work by conducting mock primaries at the Chiefdoms level involving the over 20 aspirants that expressed interest in the seat.

The first stage of the mock exercise saw the emergence of two Aspirants from each Chiefdom of the three which make up Bassa local government area (namely; Irigwe, Rukuba, and Pengana Chiefdoms respectively).

Another exercise was conducted which saw the emergence of a candidate from each Chiefdom namely; Hon. Lumumba Da Adeh (Irigwe), Hon. Babale Ibrahim Maitala (Pengana) and Yusuf Daudu (Rukuba).

After Monday’s mock exercise, Hon. Sam Para, the Chairman of, Electoral Committee stated that with powers conferred on the committee and in line with the exercise conducted, Hon. Lumumba Da Adeh was the winner having scored the highest number of votes cast (58) during the primaries.

All effort to speak to Hon. Babale Haruna Maitala on why he staged a walk-out during the primary proved abortive as he could not respond to our series of phone calls before press time.
