The Member Representing Bassa/ Jos North Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Amb.Daniel Asama, has empowered people of his constituents with Solar pumping machines towards boosting dry season farming.
The Honourable member disclosed that recent statistics showed that over Two Hundred and Ten Thousand (210,000) farmers within Bassa/Jos North local governments, and only Ten Thousand are engaged directly in dry season farming.
He explained further that due to the scarcity of resources, these are the lucky beneficiaries from his empowerment program out of the 10,000 dry season farmers on the list, pleading with them to remain hopeful.
In his Goodwill messages, he appreciated Mr.President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his pragmatic initiative to salvage Nigeria from the scourge of poverty by introducing meaningful projects to help engage farmers to harness food insecurity currently inflicting hardship in Nigeria.
Hon . Asama, while distributing the Solar pumping machines for Irrigation purposes to beneficiaries across the constituency, warned them against selling it or selling the machines in the open market.
He lamented that the situation Nigerians are passing through requires quick intervention, which of he lobbied the presidency and was captured in the 2025 budget for his people to benefit, and Mr. President graciously granted in collaboration with NIASS.
Asama charged the beneficiaries to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who won under the platform of APC, while he is from Labour Party (LP), but through his kind gesture, the issue is not on political party, because we are Nigerians first.
“Is about policy of Mr. President for the interest of common man in the rural area which is articulated and implemented towards upgrading GDP, the President has being giving us the necessary assistance on projects that would help us to up scale the living standard of our constituents, any time we approached to him, he gives us listening ears.”
The Honourable Member further disclosed, you emerged as one of the beneficiaries, which means you are lucky. He maintained.
He pleaded with those who could not get the product now, that the empowerment program is just the first phase in a series as more are still on the pipe line, who knows if you are going to be the lucky one, advise them not to feel disoriented about the “Mudus Operandi” use in the selection of beneficiaries which was transparently carried out and nobody should cast doubts on it credibility.
However, send a Stern warning to beneficiaries not to sell the products to make quick or easy money.
Adding that if any of them could not make use of the pumping machines for dry reason should give to their neighbor who can make maximum use of it.
In his response Hon. David Makus who is the leader of Bassa legislative Council thank the honourable Member for his kind gesture in providing Solar pumps for dry season farming at the grassroots, which will in turn help in boosting agricultural production at the grassroots level, and fight against food insecurity currently ravaging the continent including Nigeria.
Hon.Makus warned beneficiaries not to sell the product to make quick money as some do, and use it for the purpose it was meant.
Thank the Honourable member for the initiative and pray for God to give him long life and more wisdom to initiate people-oriented programs at the National Assembly.
It would be recalled that early this year, 2025, the member distributed drugs and other hospital equipment across the hospitals in the Constituency.
According to Asama, the exercise was to boost agricultural productivity and empower local farmers, Hon. Ambassador Daniel Asama Ago, representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency in Plateau State.
The solar irrigation pump machines would help our farmers in the constituency. This initiative was successful in collaboration with the Nigeria Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), which aims to improve farming activities and contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector.
During the distribution ceremony held at Jasko Hotel, Rukuba Barracks Road, Agingi, Bassa LGA, Plateau State, Hon. Asama personally presented the machines to the beneficiaries.
He emphasized the importance of utilizing lean resources for their purpose. He urged the farmers to take advantage of this opportunity and make the most of the machines to improve their farming activities.
Expressing his gratitude for the initiative, Hon. Ago said, “I said it earlier, this is not what I want, what I want is bigger than this, but you have to be grateful for every little thing you get for your people. You’ll be grateful for it. The country is at home, all there is so much, so when I’m able to get this, no matter how little, I accept it with gratitude, with happiness, and back to my people.”
Hon. Ago also appreciated the President’s benevolence, saying, “I mean, it’s the benevolence of the president that gets to them. If the president was not very proactive about farming and he’s not keen about empowering Nigeria and starting Nigeria from the core again, he wouldn’t approve and continue to do this kind of gestures.”
The event highlighted Hon. Ago’s commitment to serving his constituents and promoting development in Plateau State. His efforts demonstrate a genuine dedication to improving the lives of his people and contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector.
