The Honorable Member Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Lafia Central, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki has appealed to the protesting youth in the country to have a rethink by shunning all forms of destruction of valuables.
The State lawmaker under the auspices of the Social Democratic Party stated this when he paid a visit to the General Manager of Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Scheme, Abdullahi Bala at his office.
Saying violent protests hurts the lives and properties of the people as well as public properties
He called on the youths not to allow themselves to be used by desperate individuals or groups as agents of destruction in the country.
Akwashiki, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts said that it is allowed by the constitution to hold peaceful protest but it is not allowed to destroy anybody’s property.
” Protest is constitutional but taking advantage of the protest to kill or destroy other people’s property is criminal and as a Government we condemn it and we will never encourage that.
“I want to call on the youths in the State and the country at large to please embrace peace and to be patient with the Government of the day.
“Government is fully aware of the plights being faced by Nigerians and in no distance time, it will come out with more measures that will reduce the pains being faced by Nigerians,”
He used the occasion to call on parents to monitor their children and not to allow them to engage in the protests that will in the end turn into violence.
“Youth should always embrace peace and be supportive of the Government of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
“Because Governor Sule is doing a lot in the state through his developmental projects.
“Let’s continue to give him support to succeed,” He advised.
The lawmaker appreciated the General Manager, management, and staff of NAYES for what they are doing and urged them to keep it up.
He enjoined them to maintain positive synergy with all arms of the government to ensure good governance in the state.
Akwashiki said that the State Assembly is working round the clock to review the existing law that establishes the scheme for better results.
“The bill if finally becomes law will ensure improved welfare of NAYES staff and empower them through skills acquisition,” he said.
Responding, the General Manager appreciated the lawmaker for the visit and the effort of the Assembly to review the law establishing NAYES to make the agency more active and effective in the State.
He assured the lawmaker of his agency’s desire to work within the provisions of the law for the overall development of the State.
