High Court Lafia Jailed 12 Persons Over Diversion Of Relief Materials

Twelve persons were docked in Lafia prisons for stealing, criminal conspiracy and breach of thrust by a High Court sitting in Lafia over diversion of relief material doled out to displaced communities of Ashangwa and Kurmin Gogo by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state.

The accused persons are

Alh.Audu Aliyu

Moses Bufu

Daniel Ajero

Danladi Abubakar

Ayuba Rayyanu

Taf Akwash

Sylevester Urva

Ishaya Ada

Suleiman Sale

Muhammadu Sale

Adamu Namo

All pleaded not guilty before the presiding Judge, Justice Christy who granted the twelve accused persons bail on the condition that they would not jump bail. All the accused persons denied their involvement in the diversion of relief materials which include

Ten bags of rice

120 bags of cement

18 carton of detergent (omo)

11 bags of maize

4 bags of beans

and numbers of Mattresses

The Judge averred that the twelve persons were charged following their involvement in stealing, criminal conspiracy and breach of thrust on the 02/03/2016.

The defense counsel, Bar.O.E Yakubu objected for the grant of bail to the accused persons 11,12″ and others 1-10 respectively.

“I pleaded with the court to grant the accused person 11-12 so as to enable them to go and write Jamb exemination, After a briefed and stiff argument, the prosecutor, Markus Augustine insisted that the accused be  reminded in prison to enable the police to undergoe further investigation.

But the Judge granted them bail on the conditions that their surety must be a resident of Lafia or leaving within the jurisdiction of the court. Each of the accused person must pay the sum of N20,000 each, that surety must be a civil servant or a Business man. He must be a reliable person and he will present two passport photograph.

However, since the accused person didn’t meet their bail conditions, they were reminded in Lafia prison as the Judge adjourned the sitting to 14/03/2016 for further mentioning.

As at about 5:39pm yesterday, the twelve accused persons were conveyed in a police Hilux van with registration number NPF 9919C with tight security to Lafia prison.

In a related development, No fewer than 9 persons from Tudun Adubu has written a letter of complaint  to the state Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura accusing those saddle with the responsibility of sharing the relief material of conspiring with some criminals .

The letter of complainant was signed by Hon. Prince Sale Mohammed Ali (Ciroman Tudun Adubu and copied to His Royal Highness ,Osuku of Obi,Alh.Aliyu Dangiwa Orume ,they signatory also accused Hon.Godwin of diverting chunk amount of money
