Heavy Rain Fall Kills Pregnant Woman, Three Others, Washes Away Farm Produce In Jigawa

A heavy rainfall which lasted for one hour thirty minutes in Dutse Jigawa state has killed four persons including a pregnant woman.

 

The rain which started about 4.45 pm stopped around 6 25 pm in the evening where it left hundreds of families stranded as the rain destroyed their Houses forcing many families to sleep inside public buildings and primary schools while some slept inside the market stalls.

 

Our reporter who visited the scene of the incident in Auno village of Kafin Hausa discovered that a building collapsed and killed a woman identified as Fatima Musa, while her husband Uwaisu Musa who sustained various degrees of injuries is now receiving treatment at Kafin Hausa General Hospital.

 

Police spokesperson in the State, SP Audu jinjiri confirmed the story as he said the woman is now getting better.

 

In another development, the three persons and a cow were killed as a result of mud building collapse in Matafari Village, the information officer in Guri Local Government Alhaji Sunusi said among the victims include a pregnant woman and her two children with a cow while properties worth hundreds of thousands naira were also destroyed.

 

He explained further that the farm produces worth millions of naira were are also washed away by the rainfall, adding that many persons are now taking refuge at various government buildings in the area.

 

An investigation by this medium shows that no assistance has been given to the victims from the Government.

 

An eyewitness told this medium that the rain also destroyed several houses in Sindimina village of Birnin kudu local government and Birnin kudu town as properties worth thousands of naira destroyed.

 

While contacted the Executive Secretary Jigawa State Emergency Management, SEMA, Alhaji Sani Yusif Babura said they are doing their best to tackles the issues assuring that the management will soon conduct an assessment to give the victims relief assistance.
