Hamza Al-Mustapha: Lagos State Government Heads To Supreme Court
Lagos State Government has headed back to the Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal Judgment which discharged and set free Major Hamza Al- Mustapha and Alhaji Lateef Shofolahan which also clears them of any culpability in the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.
This was made known today by the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye at a news conference in Alausa, Ikeja.
According to Ipaye, he also said that the Lagos state government has formally filed an appeal at the Supreme Court on Monday against the two judgments delivered by the Appeal Court.
According to Ipaye, he said after a careful study of the two judgments of the Court of Appeal, the government concluded that there were grounds for appeal, as he added that these steps were undertaken in order to ensure that victim’s family, the defendants and the society were not deprived of the last window of opportunity provided by the constitution for the resolution of the case.
According to Ipaye, he said that it is the duty of the Lagos State Government to make sure that law abiding residents and visitors continue to live, work and pursue their various aspirations in a safe and secured environment.
It will be recalled that a Hamza Al-Mustapha and Alhaji Lateef Shofolahan were sentenced to death by Hanging in January 2012 by a Lagos High Court, a judgment which was upturned by an appellate court on July 12, 2013 presidential election.
