Gunmen Kill 29 Persons In Adamawa Community

No fewer than 29 people have been killed after suspected terrorists attacked the Guyaku community in Gombi LGA of Adamawa State.

According to reports citing local officials and community leaders, the attackers invaded the community late on Sunday, carrying out “sporadic shootings for several hours, killing residents and destroying property.”

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri confirmed the death toll during a visit to the affected community.

He condoled with bereaved families and described the incident as “tragic and unacceptable.”

In a statement posted on X after the visit, Fintiri said the state government is intensifying security operations to restore peace.

“My heart breaks for the people of Guyaku in Gombi LGA. Today, I stood on the ground where our brothers and sisters were cruelly taken from us. This act of cowardice is an affront to our humanity and will not go unpunished,” he said.

“To the bereaved families: Adamawa mourns with you. To the attackers: justice is coming. We will rebuild, and we will remain resilient.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

For over a decade, Adamawa State has experienced recurring violence linked to insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and other armed factions.

In February, more than 24 people were reportedly killed when gunmen attacked Kirchinga village in Madagali LGA, razing homes, shops, and places of worship while leaving several others injured.

The killings have drawn condemnation from Amnesty International, which described the incident as “horrifying” and called on authorities to strengthen efforts to protect lives and bring perpetrators to justice.
