Group Warns Political Aspirants Against Violent Conduct In Ogun

Yewa Connecting Minds (YCM), an umbrella body that comprises both youths and elders in liberation movement of Yewaland has warned political aspirants against violent conducts which could affect the region’s chances in the 2019 general elections.

Coordinator of YCM, Prince Ekunola Gbenga Abraham (PEGA), who expressed concerns over the attitude of certain individuals vying for governorship position from Yewa/Awori region of Ogun State, said aspirants must play by the rules of the game.

The group noted that the wrangling between some supporters of aspirants in Ogun West Senatorial District of the state could snowball into violence and even cause the region to lose the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state if not checked.

According to Abraham, “as at today, Ogun West is the most marginalised of the four regions in the political arrangement and calculations, for over 40 years after the creation of the state, the region comprising of the Yewa/Awori people remains the only section that has not produce the governor.

Abraham accused the leadership of the region of selfish interest, “instead of them (leaders) to come together and secure the public endorsement of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and some notable elders in the state, they are busy causing division and disunity.

“2019 will not be a game as usual, YCM is ready to sacrifice anything to make the long yearning dream of the region come to reality, any leader trying to undermine the capacity and power of YCM might end up losing out.

Abraham particularly appealed to Traditional rulers and political leaders in the region and state at large to refrain from acts that can lead to discord among aspirants and cause violence in the community.

Abraham, who spoke on behalf of the group, noted that political crises were been fuelled in the state as a result of the ambition of some politicians to glue themselves to an office and remain godfathers in their constituencies.

“Some respected elders were being molested and rubbished by some supporters of aspirants because of personal interest, the YCM leader alleged.

Abraham implored the aspirants to allow peace to reign and refrain from any act of violence that could destabilise the community or tarnish the image of the region.

He called on His Royal Majesty Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, The paramount ruler of Yewaland who doubles as the Chairman of Ogun State council of Obas to constitute a panel to look into the allegations and reconcile the bickering parties.

YCM, therefore, implored other regions in the state to support the crusade for Ogun Governor of Ogun West extraction in 2019 general election in the spirit of fairness and equality.
