Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has warned fishermen in the State to shun obnoxious fishing by the use of chemicals and dynamite, as he said the use of mosquito nets, dynamite, and chemicals destroys water bodies.
He gave the warning during the 3rd edition of the fishing festival held at Tungan Nupawa, Assakio community of Lafia East Administrative Area of Lafia Local Government Council.
He, however, warned on water pollution and overfishing as a means of killing water bodies, the State Commissioner of Agriculture and Water Resources, Honorable Tanko Umar Tunga represent the State Governor Abdullah Sule at the occasion.
The Governor said the fishing festival will preserve cultural preservation and colorful display, as well as preserving cultural values, showcase the traditions of Nasarawa State, innovate packaging, and stimulate trade and value addition

Professor. Shola Solomon, in a keynote address at the fishing festival from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, advocated for the introduction of cage culture as an advanced method for preserving fish.
Stating that the Government of Nasarawa State must make resources available to introduce cage culture.
